Fly Tying Classes

TWO LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS

The Spokane Fly Fishers are offering a 5-session course on the basics of fly

tying. You will learn beginning tying techniques and tie flies that work in

local lakes, rivers and streams.

Classes will be held Saturdays on January 5, 12, 19, 26 and February 2 from

9 – 12 and

1 – 4pm at 1812 W 10th Av. Each session is limited to 8 people. The cost is

$20, which covers the cost of materials.

If you have a vise and/or tools you are welcome to bring them, but otherwise

the SFF will provide all the equipment and materials needed.

Betty Smith-Lambert will be the instructor. Betty has years of tying and teaching experience. She will

be assisted by members of the club so there will be lots of individual attention and some joking around

(not a lot of this because Betty wants you to learn all you can possibly learn).

Parent/child teams are encouraged, but individual attendees must be at least 12 years old.

You may sign up for classes at the December or contact Betty at 838-5914.

INTERMEDIATE & ABOVE SKILL LEVEL

Six classes will be held on consecutive Thursday evenings January 10, 17, 24, 31 and February 7,

21 from 7 – 9 at Whites Outdoors.  We’ll be skipping Valentine’s Day for obvious reasons! The cost will be $20-25, payable before or at the first class.

We will have guest instructors that will teach how to tie patterns that haven’t been covered in previous

years as well as teaching some old favorites. Some of the patterns will be parasols, balanced beads and

umbrellas (sounds like a sewing class]. We will also try to include patterns that are requested by class

members.

You must bring you own tying equipment, materials will be provided for each fly. This includes an extension chord if you are

using a tying light.

If you are interested in taking the classes be sure you have the skills to tie some fairly complicated patterns.

Some individual help is available, but you’re pretty much on your own. The classes are very informal

and lots of information is shared.

You may sign up at the December meeting or call Judy Kaufman at 924-9462.

The Club provides beginner, intermediate and advanced fly tying classes for the membership only

Patterns and techniques for Steelhead Flies will be available if there is enough interest.

Contact Us if interested.
